Easter Prayer Guide

As we approach Easter, we want to pray, expecting God to move among us. This prayer guide leads us through the final seven last words of Christ. These last words, spoken from the cross, show us what was on the mind and heart of Jesus as he faced His final moments on earth. These words will lead us each day in ways we can pray this Easter season.

*Prayer Encouragement: Set aside time each day to be in focused prayer. Try not to move to quickly through your prayers, but take time to pray, read the verses, and interact with God.*

Monday, April 3rd: Luke 23:34, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.”

A Prayer for You:

·      Ask God to help you live in complete surrender and obedience to him. Is there anyone in whom you have withheld forgiveness? Ask God to give you the grace to forgive them.

A Prayer for Others:

·      Ask God to bring many, including your own family and friends, this Easter to hear the message of forgiveness found in Jesus.

·      Pray that we would see family, friends, coworkers, and neighbors released from the bondage of unforgiving sin.

Tuesday, April 4th, Luke 23:43, “And he said to him, Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.”

A Prayer for You:

·      Praise God for the great salvation you have in Jesus Christ. Praise God that through the death of Jesus, sin has lost its sting and we have eternal life.

A Prayer for Others:

·      Pray for people in your life who have yet to trust Jesus as their Lord and Savior. Ask God to cause them to see, know, believe, and confess that Jesus is the Son of God, the Savior of the world.

Wednesday, April 5th. John 19:26-27, “Woman, behold, your son. Then he said to the disciple, Behold, your mother!”

A Prayer for You:

·      Even in the midst of his own agony, Jesus thought of the pain of others. Pray and cast all your anxieties on Jesus.

·      Ask God to supply what you need today.

A Prayer for Others:

·      Ask God to open your eyes to those who are hurting around you.

·      Pray that God would make us a church family who cares well for one another and our community.

Thursday, April 6th, Mark 15:34, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”

Pray for You:

·      Praise God that Jesus was forsaken so that you never have to be forsaken.

Pray for Others:

·      Pray for those who feel forsaken by others, that they would know the acceptance of God who loves them.

·      Pray that many would respond to the invitation to come and hear the gospel this Easter.

Friday, April 7th, John 19:28, “I thirst.”

 Pray for You:

·      Praise God that all his promises are yes and amen in Jesus Christ.

·      Praise God for the testimony of Scripture, where we see the thread of God’s redemption story from Genesis to Revelation.

Pray for Others:

·      Ask God to make us a people who know and believe the Bible.

·      Ask God to awaken those who hear the Bible preached and taught this Easter season.

Saturday, April 8th, John 19:30, “It is finished.”

Pray for You:

·      Praise God for the finished work of Jesus on the cross.

·      Pray for God to give you clarity about what He has called you to do. Pray for commitment to live out that calling each day.

Pray for Others:

·      Pray God to use us to raise up the next generation to be devoted disciples of Jesus.

Sunday, April 9th, Luke 23:46, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.”

Pray for You:

·      As we celebrate Easter today, ask God to fill you with joyful hope!

·      Pray that God would fill us all with confident assurance of his purposes and plans for us.

Pray for Others:

·      Ask God to give faith and courage for people to respond to the call to be saved and baptized.

·      Pray that those who submit their lives to Christ today would continue to be disciple-making disciples for the rest of their lives.
