When Grace Breaks Through (Sermon Recap Week 6)
In Genesis 44–45, Joseph’s story reaches a powerful turning point. After years of betrayal, separation, and pain, God’s grace breaks through in unexpected ways, bringing healing.
Joseph, once sold into slavery by his brothers, is now second in command in Egypt. When his brothers return to him for food during a famine, he tests their hearts one final time. Judah—the same brother who once betrayed him- now offers himself in place of Benjamin. It’s the first moment in Scripture where someone willingly becomes a substitute. And it points us to Jesus, who became our perfect substitute on the cross.
Joseph reveals his identity, forgives his brothers, and sees God’s hand behind it all: “God sent me before you to preserve life” (Gen. 45:5). Instead of seeking revenge, Joseph chooses grace. He invites his family to settle in Goshen and be restored.
Main Point: God’s grace breaks through our pain to fulfill His plan.
This story reminds us that:
Grace confronts our guilt—and calls us into the light.
Grace repairs what’s been broken—offering forgiveness and restoration.
Grace reverses our grief, bringing new purpose and hope.
Maybe you’re still waiting for your breakthrough. Joseph’s story is a reminder that even when we can’t see it, God is always working behind the scenes, through the pain, and for His greater purpose.
Let’s trust Him with the ending.
