Missio Dei Week 3 Prayer Guide: God’s Mission Over Your Comfort
This prayer guide is based on a sermon I preached on November 24th as part of our Missio Dei sermon series at Heights Baptist Church.
Day 1: Shed Hindrances
Scripture: Hebrews 12:1a
“Let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles.”
Reflection:
Identify the weights—good or bad—slowing your spiritual progress. Reflect on anything impeding your walk with Christ. Ask God to reveal these hindrances and help you let go of them.
Prayer:
Lord, I surrender anything that hinders my race of faith. Please show me the habits, relationships, or distractions that I need to lay aside. Please give me the courage to shed sin and walk in freedom. Thank You for the testimony of others who have faithfully run their race. Amen.
Day 2: Run with Endurance
Scripture: Hebrews 12:1b
“Let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.”
Reflection:
Running with endurance requires focus, strength, and reliance on God. Reflect on times when you’ve felt like giving up. Seek God’s power to persevere through challenges, knowing He has marked out your race.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I ask for strength to endure. Help me to press forward, even when I feel weak or weary. Teach me to rely on Your Spirit as my fuel, trusting in Your plan for my life. Amen.
Day 3: Fix Your Eyes on Jesus
Scripture: Hebrews 12:2
“Fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.”
Reflection:
When life feels overwhelming, where are your eyes? Focus on Jesus, who began and will complete your faith. Reflect on how shifting your gaze to Him changes your perspective on life’s challenges.
Prayer:
Jesus, I fix my eyes on You. Help me to look away from my problems and focus on Your grace, power, and love. Remind me daily that You are the author and finisher of my faith. Strengthen me to trust in You completely. Amen.
Day 4: Consider Christ’s Example
Scripture: Hebrews 12:3
“Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.”
Reflection:
Meditate on Christ’s endurance through suffering. He faced the cross with joy for the sake of redeeming us. Reflect on how His example inspires and encourages you in difficult times.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank You for enduring the cross for me. When I feel like giving up, remind me of Your sacrifice and steadfastness. Help me to draw strength from Your example and press on in faith. Amen.
Day 5: Embrace God’s Mission Over Comfort
Scripture: Hebrews 12:1-3
Reflection:
God calls you to prioritize His mission, even when it’s uncomfortable. Reflect on how you can align your life with His purpose and trust Him through discomfort.
Prayer:
Father, I choose to embrace Your mission above my own comfort. Help me to live intentionally for Your kingdom, even when it requires sacrifice. Empower me to glorify You through my actions and endurance. Thank You for using me to accomplish Your purpose. Amen.
