Missio Dei Week 1 Devotional Guide
This is week 1 of our Missio Dei devotional guide. This resource follows along with the sermons through the Missio Dei series. Access the sermons at Heights Baptist Church's YouTube page.
Day 1: Designed with Purpose
Scripture: Acts 17:26-27
Reflection: We start this journey with a powerful truth: God has a purpose for each of us, woven into where and when we live. As Paul spoke to the people of Athens, he explained that each of us is created by God and placed intentionally in our unique circumstances. This isn’t by accident! God has carefully positioned us—physically and historically—for His divine purpose. Today, let’s pause to think about our lives and surroundings. Where has God placed you? What is the purpose He might have for you in this season?
Prayer: “Lord, thank You for creating me with purpose and for placing me where I am. Help me to see Your hand in the details of my life and to live with a deeper awareness of Your mission.”

Day 2: Unity in Diversity
Scripture: Acts 17:26
Reflection: Paul reminds us that all humanity is bound together, created by one God. Although we differ in language, culture, and background, we share a divine origin. Recognizing this helps us see others with respect and dignity, knowing they, too, bear the image of God. As we embrace our shared humanity, we realize that God desires reconciliation across all people. Take time today to reflect on the diversity around you. How can you show respect and love to those who are different from you?
Prayer: “Father, thank You for the beauty of diversity. Help me see others through Your eyes, with respect and love, and to reach out to those around me with grace.”

Day 3: Boundaries with Intent
Scripture: Acts 17:26-27
Reflection: Not only are we created intentionally, but God has also determined the places we inhabit. Our “boundaries” are part of His divine design, a way of drawing us and those around us toward Him. This reality is an invitation to seek God where we are, in the communities and neighborhoods He’s placed us. He has a purpose for each person within our reach. Consider how your local area—your work, neighborhood, or school—may be part of God’s plan for you.
Prayer: “Lord, help me to see my community as my mission field. Open my eyes to the needs around me, and show me how to share Your love with those You have placed in my life.”
---
Day 4: The Call to Be Missional People
Scripture: Romans 10:14-15
Reflection: God’s mission doesn’t stop with us—it extends through us. We are called to be "missional people," helping others encounter God and understand their purpose. Just as Paul shared the good news in Athens, we are called to share the message of Jesus wherever we are. Who around you needs to hear about the hope, forgiveness, and purpose found in Christ? Take a step today, whether it’s in prayer, conversation, or action, to help someone draw closer to God.
Prayer: “Jesus, empower me to be bold in sharing Your love with those around me. Let my life be a testament to Your grace and mercy, and use me to bring others into Your family.”
---
Day 5: Pursuing the Divine Presence
Scripture: Acts 17:27, Romans 1:19-20
Reflection: Ultimately, God’s greatest desire is that we would seek and know Him. He has made Himself known through creation and, more personally, through Jesus Christ. God doesn’t stay hidden; He wants us to experience His presence daily. As we live with purpose in our communities, let’s also deepen our pursuit of knowing Him. Today, spend time in prayer, inviting God to reveal Himself to you in a fresh way.
Prayer: “God, thank You for pursuing me and making Yourself known. Help me to seek You above all else and to find joy and purpose in knowing You more each day.”
---
Conclusion:
This week, we’ve explored how God’s divine design places us where we are for His mission. Embrace this purpose and seek God’s presence, remembering that He has called you to impact those around you. Let’s be missional people, living intentionally for His kingdom.
