Pray this for Your Pastor

Can I let you in on a little secret? Saturdays can be the hardest day of the week for pastors, and that is why your prayers matter.

In Ephesians 6:19, the apostle Paul writes, “Pray also for me, that the message may be given to me when I open my mouth to make known with boldness the mystery of the gospel.” If Paul needed prayer for clarity and boldness, your pastor does too.

Here are some intentional and personal ways to pray for your pastor on Saturdays.

1. Pray for Clarity in the Message

Pray that God would give your pastor the right words as he prepares and preaches. Ask that the message of Jesus’ death and resurrection would be simple, clear, and anchored in Scripture.

2. Pray for Boldness in the Moment

Paul asked for boldness, and your pastor needs that same courage. Pray that when he steps up to preach, he would not hold back or second-guess, but speak with confidence in the truth of God’s Word.

Ask God to replace any fear or pressure with a calm, Spirit-filled boldness, one that is both compassionate and unwavering.

3. Pray for His Rest on Saturday

This is one of the most practical and often overlooked ways to pray.

Saturday can be a heavy day, with final preparations, last-minute tweaks, and mental weight. Pray that your pastor can rest well, both physically and mentally.

Ask God to give him peace, good sleep, and a settled heart. Pray that he would go into Sunday not drained, but refreshed and ready.

4. Pray for His Family

Pray for his spouse and children, that they would feel supported, not overlooked. Ask God to give them encouragement, unity, and even joy as they serve alongside him in this busy season.

5. Pray for Protection from Distraction and Discouragement

Ephesians 6 reminds us that spiritual battles are real. Sunday worship services are significant moments, and with them often come increased distractions, unexpected challenges, or even discouragement.

Pray that your pastor would stay focused, guarded in his mind, and steady in his spirit.

6. Pray for Open Hearts on Sunday

Finally, pray for the people who will hear the message.

Pray for the guest who is unsure, the skeptic who is questioning, and the believer who needs renewed hope. Ask God to prepare hearts ahead of time, that when your pastor preaches, people are ready to respond.

As Sunday approaches, your pastor doesn’t just need more preparation; he needs a praying church.

When the gospel is preached clearly and boldly, and covered in prayer, God changes lives.
